How do I become a Self Insurance Administrator?
To become a Self Insurance Administrator, you must demonstrate competence by passing the Self Insurance Administrator written examination.
How do I register for the exam?
You may either register online or mail in a paper registration form. To register online with a credit card please click on the link below. If you choose to mail in a paper exam registration form you may pay by credit card, cashier's check or money order. You can request or download this registration form on the link below. All exam registrations (either online or via mail) must be received by the filing deadline (see schedule).
Late registration is not guaranteed and is on a space available basis.

Where is the exam offered?
Currently we offer three location choices which include Los Angeles area, San Bernardino/Riverside area, and Sacramento area. All scheduled candidates will receive a scheduling letter from CPS approximately two weeks prior to the test date confirming the time and exact location of the exam.
Specific exam locations are generally not known in advance.
What forms of ID are acceptable at the exam?
Only the following forms of identification will be accepted:
(1) Current state-issued driver’s license or DMV identification card,
(2) Current U.S. or foreign issued passport, or
(3) U.S. Military identification card issued within the past 5 years.
The first and last name on the picture identification you bring must match the first and last name you provided on the registration form. If the name on your picture identification does not match the name listed on the roster, you will NOT be admitted into the exam room.
What is the exam like?
The exam consists of 100 multiple-choice questions in the following four areas:
1. Worker’s Compensation Statutory and Case Law
2. Workers’ Compensation Administrative Rules and Regulations
3. Medical Management Disability Evaluation & Estimates of Future Liability
4. General Claims Management
Candidates are given 2 ½ hours to complete the exam. CPS will provide you with a Schedule for Rating Permanent Disabilities under provisions of the Labor Code of the State of California, to be used while taking the test.

How can I prepare for this exam?

How and when do I receive my exam results?
Examination results will be mailed to you
approximately
six weeks after the date of the examination. You may also login to your CPS account and click on “View Notifications” to view a copy of your exam results once they have been posted. PLEASE DO NOT CALL THE DEPARTMENT OF INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS OR CPS HR Consulting IN THIS REGARD. RESULTS CANNOT BE GIVEN OVER THE PHONE OR BY FAX.
