The English written test can be comprised of approximately 70-80 multiple-choice
questions in the following four subtests:
Basic Vocabulary
Grammar and Word Usage
Reading Comprehension
English to Other Language Translation
The Other Language written test can be comprised of approximately 80-85 multiple-choice
questions in the following five subtests:
Basic Vocabulary
Grammar and Word Usage
Reading Comprehension
Sentence or other translation
Other Language to English Translation
(These are sample formats only. Formats are subject to change at the discretion
of CPS Test Development Department).
Applicants are not allowed to use aids during the tests, i.e., dictionaries,
notes, textbooks, etc., and are not allowed to bring any personal items into
the test room
except the required identification, wallet and car keys, all of which must be
placed in a clear plastic bag. Candidates must achieve a minimum adjusted score
of 70 in each
test to qualify for participation in the oral exam. The test is approximately
4 hours in length.
