The state certification exam for Administrative Hearing Interpreter has been offered in the Spanish, Arabic, Cantonese, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Tagalog and Vietnamese languages since 1979. Exams in the Arabic and Tagalog languages were eliminated on July 1, 1994 due to a lack of applicants and effective July 1, 1995, the Portuguese language was also eliminated from the testing program for the same reason.
The state certification exam for Medical Interpreter has been administered in the Spanish language since September 1993, and Korean since 1999. Future exams in the Cantonese, Japanese, and Vietnamese languages will be scheduled if sufficient numbers of interested applicants apply.
